Abraham Lincoln is America's most famous president, renowned as a great leader who led the nation through perhaps its worst crisis - the US Civil War. Before becoming president, he lived and practiced law in Springfield IL. Come see his house, visit the museum that commemorates his life, and walk through his tomb.
Schedule: ( We will try to visit these places – times may change based upon availability.)
Pickups: 7:50am Orchard Downs South Laundry; 8:10am Illini Union
Arrive around 10:00am – Lincoln Visitor Center
10:40 – 11:40pm Visit the Historic Lincoln Home
12:00-12:30 – Lunch (I suggest you bring a picnic lunch) eat in the van or outside if the weather is nice – drive to the Lincoln Museum (or you can eat at a restaurant.)
12:30–1:00 – Old State Capital Building Walk through tour by David K
1:30 – 3:30 – Visit Lincoln Museum This is a very interesting museum and a highlight of the trip. Bring your UI ID if you have one. See https://www.illinois.gov/alplm/Pages/default.aspx for more information.
3:30 – 4:00 Visit Lincoln’s Tomb
Return to Champaign-Urbana: 5:30pm
Trip Donation: $20/person ($10 for children).
This includes transportation, parking, and admission into the Lincoln Museum. Please bring your own lunch, or plan to buy lunch at a restaurant in Springfield.
